John Ross: Pioneer of Korean Christianity (1842–1915)
1. Missionary Work
- Scottish Presbyterian missionary sent to Manchuria in 1872.
- Evangelized Korean merchants in China, leading to early Korean Christian communities.
2. Korean Bible Translation
- Oversaw the first full Korean New Testament translation (1887).
- His work paved the way for Christianity in Korea before Western missionaries arrived.
3. Lasting Impact
- His Bible translation fueled a grassroots Korean Christian movement.
- Inspired Korean evangelists who spread the Gospel in Korea.
- His legacy continues through Newton Presbyterian Church – John Ross Memorial (EH22 1SR).
